This is a complete transcript of my 2009 university dissertation, submitted as part of my BA Honours Digital Art degree. It earned me a 2:1 grade, which I was quite pleased with given how sick I was with the course, certain members of the staff and the university in general. It discusses how computer games, in their various forms, can be used to express a clear political or ideological message, and as such influence people. It’s largely based on my interest in “serious games,” and it’s an area I’d like to do more in.
I should also note that the supervisor to this was Alison Clifford, who did a great job under very difficult circumstances and without whom I would never have completed this dissertation. Her guidance and feedback were invaluable and I remain extremely grateful for her contribution.
